This year, the Opinion Section is creating The Ubyssey’s inaugural editorial board (or at least, inaugural in recent memory). The editorial board will be composed of nine members of The Ubyssey and will write weekly editorials on a range of topics. Editorials are opinion essays that, unlike the rest of our publication, are not signed by an individual author — they’re signed by the editorial board as a whole.
The board will include a member from every section of our publication — Arts, Culture, News, Opinion and Sports. The board won’t just write about AMS politics or civics. Anything that’s part of our report is fair game for an editorial. Though we are unlikely to write a concert review as an editorial board, we might weigh in on how UBC should support live music or condemn Vancouver’s cuts to arts funding. We might not write a game analysis, but we could praise the AMS for playing Thunderbirds games throughout the Nest or condemn NAIA’s restrictions on trans athletes. Joining the board will allow you to dive deeper into issues your department may not cover.
